How do you copy a recipe or blueprint?

Would you be using the Scribing skill, Document Replication skill, or will everyone just be able to to do it?

Scribing skill to make the copy. Possibly you will need some other skills as well. Say maybe engineering for blueprints or tailoring for patterns, ect.

Well if you were improving them or making changes I would agree.

But to just copy it from one piece of paper to another you are just moving a line from one paper to another.

For instance a tailor pattern the easiest thing to do is just trace it out on another piece of paper.

You don't need to know what the symbols and measurements mean, you are just reproducing what's there.

You do need to be careful and pay attention to detail as leaving something out or accidentally changing something could be problematic

Yes. But even with care, transcription errors happen. That should be a failure rate. Ideally, the failure won’t always be clear until the building collapses (or the equivalent).

I thought there was a statement that you would need synergy between the scribing and the skill for whatever print you were copying at least for the more advanced recipes?

I know you need that synergy for creating original works, like skill books to teach a skill, but I hadn't heard that for copying.

Needing to know something about the subject matter to decrease the chance of a transcription error is entirely reasonable. So is proofreading by a literate subject-matter specialist (eg. expert or above) or by another scribe.

I believe the best system is to get it straight from the source, a scribe working with a professional will be able to create a variety of codecs and blueprints the higher level the scribe the less time and less errors (higher quality, quicker learning times, higher base learning), and the higher level the professional, the higher tier the technique and or blueprint can be created. I am going to be making a post on what I believe scribes should be like, soon ^^

That's ideal for creating but this thread is about copying.

This is about when someone gets their hands on an old text or is asked to make many duplicates for a merchant, royal, or whoever. It will definitely happen, so I am curious how.

Note: From Discord, so can change:

how difficult would it be to scribe/copy the medical book from the TSP event? Is it possible to take a portion of it, or to put it in a larger book for those aspiring library-types?

You can't excerpt books presently, but a good scribe could certainly copy the disease book. Heck, not even "good" in the skilled sense - I just mean one who has enough talent that they can reproduce the diagrams and drawings. So, a journeyman scribe should be able to do it, I'd imagine. I'd have to go look up the stats (and I'm at home so I can't really do that) to verify that for sure, but I don't recall the book being remarkable in terms of construction, so it's more about reproducing the content, and you don't need the medical knowledge to do that. You need someone with that knowledge to help you create an original book of your own like the book reward from TSP, but that's a different task altogether.
