[Show Us Your Domain] County of Osthelia

This is my submission, you can read the rest of the description for wonderful city by clicking here

Osthelia is the County within the woods. The vast majority of the land is covered by a thick forest known as the Crow’s Wood. It was almost perpetual night time in these woods with only small breaks in the thicket of the trees that allowed small beams of light through. These woods are home to the Phage, a mutation of mann essentially. These Phage are born from Maelstrom addiction, which is the illicit use of the drug, Tumult, that was originally designed by Count Andreas Crowley. These creatures are similar to normal menn, though their skin is blemished, their bodies have strange protrusions of bone, they stand with a slight hunch, and their eyes are a hazy green. The Phage attack outsiders on sight, and no one has lived to see what they do with those they capture. The Phage are common in the Crow’s Wood as the poor parts of Osthelia are home to a thriving underground market for the drug. While the Ebonwing Court tries to limit the manufacture and spread of the drug, Phage still run wild in these woods and actually grow stronger here.

In the Kingdom of Ashland, nestled along the border of the County of Osthelia, there lies a tavern from an incomplete stone cathedral that was renovated for the inn’s needs. This almost ivory looking building was named the Ivory Pawn since it has a single large tower in the heart of the hearth. They have a small storehouse outback, use the cheap birch wood for the door, while the insides are kept cool with the help of clay and stone. Just past the Ivory Pawn, there is a city known as Avernus. It is a town known not for its manufacturing, nor for the trading of goods, but for the dark hope that lies in the namesake sanitarium of the city. Most of those who follow the king’s highway through the forest seek refuge in the Alnwick Sanitarium as a last resort to save themselves from terrible illness.

But some come seeking more. Some have heard of Alnwick, and the whispers of the dark rituals required to perform the healing in the sanitarium. Healers and surgeons arrive in droves to learn from the masters inside the sanitarium, though all but the most talented are refused.

Alnwick Sanitarium sits atop the highest hill in town separated by the Wynith River that feeds the local farms with its tributaries. A stone path leads from the only bridge winding along the hillside up to the wrought iron gate at the entrance. The higher travelers climb, the more the pastures and farms give way to forest and rock. If evening catches them still climbing, they may grow to fear the tall trees that rise around them, the yellow eyes that watch them through brush and stone – a surprising number of eyes, for a forest so close to a city. But hopefully they will arrive at the gate unharmed, ushered in by the glorious statue of the Kadryn, the god of kindness.

The outer walls of the sanitarium are smooth stone with ivy fanning out along it, clinging to the edges and creases reaching skyward. To help with the cleaning, part of the small stream is diverted and flows into the sanitarium itself. Most of the water is used for bathing, washing, and cooking; the rest flows down through the sanitarium. Some patients swear that they can hear the water echoing far below them in the quiet of the night, and dream of the gleaming water falling into the darkness beneath them - falling forever. The doctors assure them that the water merely runs down through the lower floors and out through a culvert at the base of the wall. To help in the efforts in retaining a clean environment, limestone was used to help cover up the odor of chemicals and other scents that may linger in the halls.

Oddly enough, nothing grows where the water flows out from the hospital. The doctors believe this is because of disinfectants used in daily cleanings. The townspeople, however, are careful that their children do not play near the outflow, and there are whispers that the waters carry darker things than chemicals.

High on the upper slopes of the valley, nestled among the bones of the mountain, Avernus was built. Stone is bountiful, and so of stone the city was built...

Wow, this is a great description of the County! I would not belong to the County if the Count wasn't this literate.
