“Despite the rumors, the Concierge was undoubtedly mortal. While his path to preserving the Waerd had perhaps been considered traditionally unconventional, it had been effective, but sadly he was running out of time. He had given them a home, he had given them wealth, but there was still work to be done, he could do one last thing - he could give them knowledge. Not only now, but for future generations. In two short years the resources of the Concierge and the community of Trádáil completed construction of Corvus Citadel, home of the Fulcrum Collegium, and opened its doors to the public. Libraries were filled with scrolls and books on all manner of natural, celestial, and historical topics. Displays were erected with relics from far away lands and ages past, and researchers packed the halls in the search of deeper understanding of all that is and was Elyria. The collegium was a monument to discovery, not just another means to an end, but an organization to help the Waerd unlock the secrets of the world around them and help bring that world into balance. Sadly, the Concierge would never see the fruits of this labor. Three days after it’s doors opened the Concierge was declared legally dead.”
Conn Agon Caelus - History of Alesia, the Free Kingdom, Year 680 Edition
The Fulcrum Collegium is a Waerd School(s) and Al'Tifali Organization devoted to training and sending Waerd out into the world. By divining the Two-Fold Queen’s will from the stars above the collegium seeks to bring balance to the world; both the natural and rumored supernatural parts of it. To do this the collegium not only pursues the Great Work, and teaches the skills needed to do so, but also seeks to recover Elyria’s lost history and collect relics of ages past - lest they be used unwisely and bring further imbalance. The collegium is open to all the Waerd and those sponsored by the Waerd, tho such sponsorship is not easily won.
The Fulcrum Collegium’s main campus, Corvus Citadel, can be found near the center of Trádáil, the seat of county Calanor, along the coast and southern border of Rhyddid, in the kingdom of Alésia.
The collegium is organized into ranks and departments based on skills and knowledge areas. As the collegium expands new departments and sub-departments may be added. While members train across multiple fields and departments a member who advances beyond the rank of Acolyte must choose a department to work under; though a member may change departments should their interests shift.
Archivists - Tasked with uncovering and recording the history of Elyria. Often sent to acquire items or information of ages past and to study great works of construction, to preserve that knowledge for the future. Example Professions: Scribes, Cartographers, Architects, Archeologists
Naturalists - Attempt to unlock the hidden power of the natural world to pursue the Great Work; they also seeks to verify or debunk rumors of magic and the supernatural. Example Professions: Alchemists, Botanists, Breeders
Stargazers - Chart the stars to determine how their movements affect the lives of mann, and hope to divine the will of the Two-Fold Queen. Example Professions: Astronomers, Astrologists, Navigators
Keepers (“Ours is the Burden to Remember”) The Keepers safeguard the most valuable relics and knowledge collected by the collegium; both to keep them safe and to insure they are ready to be used if necessary. Additionally the Keepers oversee and direct the collegium’s efforts to uncover the true nature of Elyria by selecting initiatives, approving budgets, promoting members, and pursuing funding for the collegium.
Archons (“Ours is the Burden to Lead”) Archons lead a department and are responsible for the day to day activity therein. This includes facilitating and budgeting projects, organizing excursions, and managing staff for their department. This duty includes dispatching the Custodians and Collectors of their department to fulfill the will of the Two-Fold Queen. Traditionally an Archon is a semi-retired Custodian or Collector who has given up on wandering the world; however this is not a requirement to be an Archon.
Mentors (“Ours is the Burden to Share”) The collegium’s primary instructors that focus on sharing their knowledge and guiding research projects for particular areas of study while residing at the Citadel. Ideally there should be at least one per knowledge area offered by the collegium.
Apprentices (“Ours is the Burden to Discover”) Fully accepted members selected for a department by a Mentor or Archon to further their chosen departments studies. They are the main body expanding both theirs and others professional knowledge via research projects. Apprentices may transition into Custodian or Collector roles if they desire and meet the training requirements.
Acolytes (“Ours is the Burden to Expand”) New prospects who have not yet been accepted into a department or reached the minimum requirements to do so, but may be granted access to collegium’s facilities. Most non-Waerd are rarely sponsored beyond this rank.
Custodians (“Ours is the Burden to Protect”) Agents trained in combat and at least one field profession. Equipped with a mount, armor, weapons, and professional tools they are sent into the world to uncover its secrets and pursue the Great Work. They can be called upon to protect the Waerd and their efforts wherever they roam in the world.
Collectors (“Ours is the Burden to Acquire”) Agents trained in guile and at least one field profession. Sometimes items of divine or historical significance fall into the hands of those who would improperly use them and bring further imbalance upon the world. On such occasions Collectors are dispatched to acquire said items and bring them to the collegium’s vaults for study and safekeeping. And sometimes such endeavors result in progressing the Great Work...
