Introduction

“We march the path of power, unafraid and unshaken by the masses driven before us. The County of Lindinheim. We are unbreakable. We shall not be denied. Greatness is our destiny and the glory that comes with the slaughter of the savages who threaten the Duchy of Baxteria will be our ultimate reward.” ~ Baleron Vindhlér, Count of Lindinheim, Lord of Gödenheim Castle

Military

Maybe you’re in it for the coin. Maybe it’s the excitement, the companionship. Maybe, just maybe, it’s because you know you’ll be pushed beyond your limits and brought to a moment when you must either utterly destroy your weakness or be broken. It’s inconsequential. Lindinheim calls to you. Those who join our military county are trained in well-guarded techniques, stances and disciplines. As a result they tend to think and act differently than others. The full-blooded members are formidable opponents on the battlefield, each supporting one another in tight formation, fighting together as one. Strength in unity. That is the mindset of a Lindinheim warrior.

Non-Military Supporting roles.

Absolutely, our military cannot effectively defend or conquer without the skills and talents of its Mayors and Citizens who keep the home fires burning as well as produce the food, tools and supplies necessary to sustain them on the battlefield.

Leadership

Leadership is arguably the most important aspect of civilization. As some say, “Would a door open without it’s hinges?” Of course not. But ask yourself. Would it open without the door itself, or the very nails that keep the hinges in place? Leaders not only need their people, they must inspire their people. But the people also need their leader. There is no illusion of power within Lindinheim. As a Baron or Mayor within the County of Lindinheim, it is your responsibility, not those above you, to make the decisions for your people. While an overall objective will be provided for you, it is left in your hands to decide on how to complete that objective. You know your resources better than anyone else.

Role-Play (Optional)

“Your services within Lindinheim have rendered you immune to fear and supremely confident. Together you will fearlessly march across the battlefield, moving from foe to foe in an impregnable formation. You would die for those beside you, as they would for you. Alone you are weak, together you are strong. The savage will say cowardly… We say strength in unity. Reject your primitive impulses and embrace your companionship, your loyalty. Two of the core principles that separates us from the barbarian vermin. Each and every one of you have trained for years in gruelling conditions, a brutal regime that has caused you to adapt an uncanny level of agility and acrobatic prowess even under heavy loads - you will effortlessly bound over traps, slip past barricades and, barring any act of divine intervention, smash straight through to get to our enemies. Do not fail me. That is the only warning you will ever receive." ~ Baleron Vindhlér, Count of Lindinheim, Lord of Gödenheim Castle.

It is expected that everyone in Lindinheim to be able to handle mature content. As can be expected from the theme – a county for those who will take whatever measures necessary to defend Lindinheim and the Citizens of Baxteria – The County of Lindinheim will go over some dark stuff. Drug use, sexuality, gore and the like would not be unusual. It’s much closer to say that we encourage a more dark/macabre atmosphere than your usual role-playing theme. Whereas the typical fantasy role-play theme is comparable to a Forgotten Realms novel, we are much closer to George R. R. Martin and R. Scott Baker. If you are comfortable with them, then chances are you would do well within our County.

However, if you find the darker side of humanity to be something you are not comfortable with, then Lindinheim is not for you. It should be noted that we are NOT 'evil', good and evil are subjective terms and should be treated as such.

As we have mentioned in the opening paragraph, the County of Lindinheim is not your usual run of the mill "clan". There are individual characters that just would not work well with us. The childishly naive, the simple minded, and those whose only purpose is to be comic relief are a few examples. When thinking of joining us, ask yourself this: “If my character was alive in the Viking Era, is it likely that he/she would fit in with a highly trained and disciplined community that swears allegiance to the Duchy of Baxteria and the County of Lindinheim?" If your answer is no, then this is not the place for your character.

With all of the above said, we do accept members who just want to fight, or craft, or even not role-play at all. These players can out-of-character (OOC) chat with us at anytime, but we ask that they do not interfere with those who are role-players and the overall theme.

Lindinheim Campaign

"Joining the County of Lindinheim means becoming more than the sum of your parts. Your comrades bleed with you, fight with you and may even cross blades with you. You fight as a pack of wolves, or a pride of lions, and concert your efforts." ~ Baleron Vindhlér, Count of Lindinheim, Lord of Gödenheim Castle.

All of our members will focus on various plot aspects, with one overarching story-line playing into the current arch of the campaign. Much of our story will come from interaction with other Tribes and Guilds through trade agreements, escort missions and other jobs, but also the day-to-day needs and pressures the different nations face. At the end of each story, we will conclude and then write a short summary covering the build-up, the major aspects and the major players of each. This we hope will tell the story of our characters and our Clan in an easy to read, organized fashion. We don't plan on creating page after page of expanded myth's or lore, we want a compact story-line that is easy for new members to follow so that they can easily throw their own characters into the mix.

You're welcome to follow our story on our website or here in the forums.

Player vs Player and Code of Conduct

"By pierced heart or decimated flesh, victory will be ours! For the Duchy of Baxteria!" ~ Baleron Vindhlér, Count of Lindinheim, Lord of Gödenheim Castle.

The County of Lindinheim is going to be taking part in PvP, given the nature of Chronicles of Elyria, it's actually going to be one of the primary focuses for us outside of role-playing and crafting. Members are expected to take part in PvP events or to be prepared to assist allied Counties and Cities. We do have a code of conduct, however, so please keep that in mind when joining. We are not a ganking "clan". We are not a bandit "clan". We are not a deviant "clan" With that in mind though should we come across a group who acts outside of our code of conduct or is well known for causing grief to role-players and non-role-players alike, we'll just simply ignore it and take care of business. A list of members who just want to farm or craft will be allowed, we know some players aren't into the PvP aspect of the game, and just wish to craft and be left alone, those members are welcome, but know, that if the County of Lindinheim is under attack, you may have to fight at some point!

Code of Conduct (PVP)

No Griefing.

Griefing is defined as the continued ganking and killing of an enemy combatant, especially one that is obviously not your match in PvP. "They were doing it to me" is not justification for us doing it. This is a cycle of frustration and ill will towards the gaming community that we do not need to perpetuate.

No Corpse Camping.

Kill and move on. Killing enemies at a resurrection point is a dishonourable and obnoxious practice, do not do it. We're looking to foster a community filled with friendly competition and fairness.

Honour

Honour your enemies as you honour your allies. Avoid disrespectful behaviour towards enemy combatants. This includes spitting emotes, taunting or any other behaviour designed to demean and insult out of spite. You represent more than our county, guild or faction, but also other counties, duchies, and the kingdom as a whole.

Flee in Fear

Allow your enemies to flee in fear. If the enemy is making an apparent attempt at escaping or simply isn't looking for a fight then enable them to do so. If they look like they're merely waiting around for the 'right' time to jump into a fight when the odds are stacked against you or your group, destroy them without mercy.

Government

The County of Lindinheim will be governed by a feudal style hierarchy, held by Count Baleron Vindhlér. The Government body will also consist of a County Council that will be comprised of the Barons and Mayors of the County.

County wide decisions will be made by vote of the County Council members. While we will not impose the county economic structure on the mayoral settlements, we will expect the baronies to govern in accordance with our county structure. Any decisions directly affecting the mayoral settlements will take into consideration their individual settlement structures, rather than be solely based on the county structure.

Although we will be using a feudal style government, we still value the opinions of each and every member of our County. In times of War, the Count may implement Martial Law, which will suspend the voting process in order to rally troops more effectively. However, this does not necessarily mean that the Count will disregard any suggestions made by his councils during wartime or martial law.

The current Hierarchy of Lindinheim is as follows:

Nobility

● Baleron Vindhlér, Count of Lindinheim
● Brianna Vindhlér, Countess of Lindinheim
● Runa Vindhlér, Sister to the Count and Master of Agriculture

County Council

● Chancellor: [Open]
Head of the Clergy and of the Chancery, charged with writing all legal binding orders, charters, letters and writs decreed by the Count of Lindinheim.
● Minister of Defence: Baron Fenwick Briar Charged with the defence of all settlements within Lindinheim, as well as roadways, highways, and the overall local protection of the county and its citizens.
● Master of Agriculture: Mayor Runa Vindhlér
Charged with tallying and managing the county’s food storehouses and agriculture production levels.
● Master of Interior: Argyn Grau
Charged with tallying and managing the county’s resource storehouses to ensure continuous production of crafted items and materials required for the county’s use and/or the completion of trade alliances or contracts. Secondly, managing customs for all imports and exports, promoting merchant trade and ensuring safe transport, identifying the needs of the Master of Agriculture, and alerting the Count of any excess or deficiencies in the county storehouse inventories. Lastly, managing the county’s finances with regard to the collection of taxes and contract income, sending out tax collectors and/or alerting the Guard Commander of any delinquencies requiring enforcement measures [exact duties subject to game mechanics].
● Marshall: [Open]

Economy

"The economy is the start and end of it all, but the foundations of a strong economy does not rest alone on spending of resources, but with the wisdom of how one goes about spending it. A strong economy promotes the honor and dignity of every citizen, rewarding determination with justice, promoting upward mobility, and building unity throughout." ~ Argyn Grau, Baron of Wissenheim, Commander of the Pandion Knights

There is a four pronged approach to the economic structure within the County of Lindinheim: Agriculture, Production, Trade and Taxes. The purpose of this structure is to ensure coin will not only flow into and out of the county, but also flow within as well. A Master of Interior will be appointed to oversee each economic branch, who will also be members who sit on the County Council. Guild Leaders will be responsible for their respective branch and its compliance with the county’s economic structure, as well as recruitment of citizens to fill particular economic roles. Gammas and Omegas may also increase production requirements as well as recommend trade embargoes as necessary during times of war or martial law. While we may not strictly impose the county economic structure on the mayoral settlements, we will expect the baronies to govern in accordance with our county structure.

Agriculture

The economic branch of agriculture for the County of Lindinheim will have three main focuses: Livestock, Produce and Plants/Herbs. The primary goal of our agricultural focuses will be that of survival, such as:

  • Growing or raising enough food products to maintain our citizens (produce/meats, etc.).
  • Ensuring the focus of our agriculture maintains economic sustainability.
  • Producing food products viable for travel (grains, dried meats, salted foods, etc).
  • Herbalists growing plants used for cooking and/or for healing properties.
  • Farmers typically growing one or two types of produce as dictated by the county’s needs.
  • Herders raising livestock for the purpose of food, milk and cheese.
  • Butchers processing meats for the purpose of distribution and sales within the county.
  • Grocers establishing shops for the purpose of distribution and sales within the county.

Production

The economic branch of production for the County of Lindinheim will be focused on goods and services in support our citizens and military. The primary goal of our production focuses will be that of training and supplying our military and ensuring the professional growth of our citizens, such as:

  • Spinners who spin flax into linen (used for crafting ship sails, paper and clothing).
  • Crafters who make various products (such as food, drinks, furniture, ship parts, paper).
  • Tailors who weave linen into clothing.
  • Blacksmiths who repair and make weapons or armor.
  • Publishers who make manuscripts, newspapers and other printed materials.
  • Tavern Keepers who provide services such as room rentals.
  • Stable masters who provide animal care and lodging services.
  • Academies that provide training and research for our soldiers and craftsmen.

Trade

The economic branch of trade for the County of Lindinheim will be focused on imports and exports necessary for maintaining sustainability and achieving the county’s military goals. The primary goal of our trade focuses will be that of maintaining import/export custom laws, establishing safe trade routes, negotiating beneficial trade alliances, and providing services to promote the professional growth of our citizens, such as:

  • Trade Routes will be established as dictated by land selection, i.e. dirt roads, mountain passes, river boats, ships, and/or any other means that become available.
  • Merchant Caravans and/or trade missions will be scheduled to transport goods along local trade routes as well as destinations outside the county as needed.
  • Caravan Services will be made available within the capital such as trade markets and food, water and travel rations to encourage visiting merchant caravans.
  • Trade Markets will be established within the capital, as well as fairs and festivals, to promote the exchange of trade to ensure the professional growth of our citizens.
  • Import/Export Customs will be established to regulate trade to promote county growth, prevent detrimental export trade monopolies, and compliance with enemy trade embargoes as dictated by the decrees of the kingdom.

Taxes and Tariffs

In addition to the previous economic branches, the county will also rely on taxes and tariffs to build its treasury and fund basic services, training and research, and various other county goals and improvements as necessary and needed. Although special deals may be made and we currently have a few ideas in this area, in general taxes will be assessed on property and tariffs will be imposed on certain exported goods, such as:

  • Farming and Production(Leased Land): Land may be leased for a fee, which includes all property taxes, and allows the citizen to keep all profits not included in the lease contract. The leaseholder will be responsible for any and all other charges, such as shipping fees and tariffs, associated with their particular use of the land.
  • Farming and Production (Non-Leased Land): Land use may be granted by special arrangement or contract in exchange for a percentage of produced goods or profits in lieu of property of taxes and/or rental fees. The contract holder will also be responsible for any and all other charges, such as such as shipping fees and tariffs, associated with their particular use of the land.
  • Agriculture (Provided Land): Land use will be granted, without taxes or fees, to farmers for agricultural purposes only and providing that a percentage of the food
produced is sent to a designated county storehouse. The grant holder will also be responsible for any and all other charges, such as such as shipping fees and tariffs, associated with their use of the land.
  • Agriculture (Rented Land): Land may be leased by farmers for agricultural purposes only in exchange for a percentage of the food produced (higher than the grant option) to be sent to a designated county storehouse or location. The leaseholder will not be obligated to pay taxes or offer discounted prices, and will be responsible for any and all charges, such as such as shipping fees and tariffs, associated with their use of the land.
  • Land Owners: Gentry who have purchased land and decided to reside within our county will not be required to enter into any specific agreement or contract regarding their land use aside from the payment of basic property taxes and abiding by all county trade laws. However, exporting certain trade goods, such as those in demand for use by our military or certain foods to sustain our citizenry, instead of selling them locally or entering a trade agreement with the county may require the payment of export tariffs and/or other associated taxes.

Trade Customs

● We will support all trade embargoes as decreed by the Duchy and Kingdom.
● We will not export trade goods that are in demand for use by our military, needed to sustain our citizenry, or has the potential to be utilized by known enemies of the kingdom.
● We will impose tariffs on all exported trade goods that are in high demand by our county that any individuals, mayoral settlements or organizations are trading to buyers outside of our county.
● We will impose trade sanctions on all individuals, mayoral settlements or organizations that use illicit means to avoid trade tariffs on export goods in high demand by our county.
