Staving off Attribute Degeneration

Hey all. On the wiki I noticed that it mentioned your attributes changing as you age. Physical stats generally decrease, mental/social stats like Focus and Leadership tend to increase, etc. I don't have a problem with that per se (it's true on the balance, after all), but I do have a question.

Will there be mechanics in the game that allow a physically active character to delay the onset or reduce the magnitude of those physical penalties? For example, in real life, I have a great uncle who scaled Mt. Kilamonjaro for his 80th birthday. I'm pretty sure I couldn't accomplish that today as a healthy 28 year-old.

Will it simply boil down to investing more into those attributes to begin with?

Thanks!

My understanding is that attributes will fluctuate based on use -- so an active person will maintain physical attributes while a sedentary person will lose them. This will actually be reflected in the appearance of the characters -- an active person will be muscular; an inactive one may even be obese.

There will be and should be limits on physical ability based on both age and genetics -- and I think they are implementing that. An active old person will be as physically fit as possible, but still not as fit as they were (or could have been) in their early adulthood.

That said, even today, not all old people can scale mountains, even if they remain as active as they can. But, I hope that the designers build that possiblity into the genetic rage of characters.

You'll have to invest in training skills to raise your attributes. I am thinking on killing myself when I'm to old and have an heir ready. All depends on the circumstances. It's okay to grow old in peace times while during war you rather work with a strong heir.

With age your character becomes mentally stronger, though I have no idea what that means in the game.

Everyone’s physical attributes regardless of activity will eventually decline there is no “known” way to prevent this. You can however lesson the magnitude by remaining active.

But even an active swordsman will eventually be surpassed by a younger version of for no other reason than the age gap. There won’t be any 150 year old sword master who can grab and use a two handed Yoru blade one handed. But training, use, and general good health should slow the decline.

As for “putting more into your starting attributes” I may be wrong but your starting attributes aren’t setup like D&D rules where you drop points in slots. Instead your attributes are based on tribe, region, family line, and finally profession. A son of a blacksmith would likely be stronger (from helping dear old dad in the forge) than the son of a scribe. There may be some wriggle room but I’ve not seen anything that overtly states we have more than a nominal input into those.

I could well imagine that the mental strength can be interpreted so that you become wise and can better recognize liars or crooks or you can lie better than a young person. As an example you say at the age of 20 years that you alone have killed a kite, then all say the idiot lies who wants to play only. The old one says oh how beautiful were the times when I was 20-25 because I fought alone against kites and defeated them, then people say ah they must have had a very exciting youth. This is a Google translation.
