Introduction

Down a long, winding road next to a rolling river, past the low banks and bustling market stalls, lies the fort of Copselinna. Nestled among the rocks overlooking the harbor, the baron’s seat of the County of Kalevasuo is far from its namesake origins in the Swamp of Giants. The high, dry shrub steppe became home to Countess Ohjetsiä in the years following the Searing Plague; the lands and title given in gratitude for the contributions of her family to the survival of the plagued duchy.

Natural resources are abundant in Kaelvasuo- the villages of Stormshire and Montal are situated near mines and quarries, while ranchers and farmers turn the flatter ground into food. The port itself serves as a center of trade for inland Drakeolm Duchy and brings ocean trade from abroad upriver to the crafting halls of Copselinna.

In keeping with Dras tradition, the Countess maintains the title of Gardner within her lands, and has set aside a grove near the center of Copselinna for the open airing and discussion of ideas; many of the most controversial come from the imposing Athenaeum of Curiosities on the plaza opposite. This strange building of jet imported from the swamps conceals displays of ancient, terrible beasts, as well as natural wonders and archeological finds. There are whispers, though, of much more behind that shiny black façade.

Stone and brick dwellings cluster around the central square, and a few large cypress trees sport Kypiq tree houses. Kypiq are tolerated here more than in some towns of Blackheart, and several families have immigrated here to join the burgeoning tinker industry. A few are even experimenting with using a bag of hot gas to lift small loads into the air. The town is known best for its alchemy guild, however, which researches inks and dyes for the great mercantile cities of Blackheart and for trade abroad. No less important, but less discussed, is its role in outfitting and researching violent chemistries for the Bloodswords, the duchy military.

Demographics

Neran majority, with significant numbers of Waerd as well as smaller numbers of Dras, To'resk, and Kypiq and miscellaneous half breeds and other tribes of Mann.

Engineers, tinkerers, and artillerists make Kalevasuo their home, along with astronomers, glass makers, smiths of all kinds, and the masons, miners, and others who make their living from the earth.
