Domain & Settlement Selection begins April 29th

By Vye

Hail and fair weather, Elyrians!

The long-awaited, highly-anticipated, often-speculated Domain & Settlement Selection is coming very, very soon! We're talking April 29th soon.

What It Is

Many MMO players have long wanted to take a plot of land, a town, or entire region and cultivate it as their own. To build something, to create a legacy, to leave a mark on the world! In Chronicles of Elyria, we are giving players the opportunity to have in-game lands afforded by the titles purchased as part of a pledge package, or earned, traded for, or won as part of an event or contest. There are kings and queens, dukes and duchesses, counts and countesses, and mayors who have bled or survived plague for the opportunity to build their legacy in Elyria.

Each server has its own unique map, each broken down into Kingdoms, Duchies, Counties, and containing individual Settlements of various sizes. On the starting continent, each one of these regions is up for grabs to the set of players with land titles. Starting on April 29th, these title-holders are going to be able to browse the map of their server and claim, at last, the lands they wish to call their own! Between the kings and queens of each server, the entire landmass of the starting continent will be included as part of one of their kingdoms. Below them, dukes and duchesses will become their vassals and claim titles to the many duchies that comprise each kingdom. Each duke or duchess will oversee a plethora of counties and the vassal counts or countesses who claim them. They, in turn, will play the liege lord to numerous, individual Settlements run by Mayors or Barons.

Domain & Settlement Selection is when the titles in people's hearts, minds, and inventories become a real place on the Elyrian map!

With this hierarchy comes great responsibility. Individual players in Elyria, those without land or titles to hold them down, will want to go where living is good. This might mean favorable weather, bountiful food, job opportunities, a strong economy, or a fitting system of law and government. Having land will be a burden if there is no one to work it, so each titled land-owner will be vying for a healthy population and bustling economy for their lands. This is a key element of the pillars of Chronicles of Elyria's design: having a dynamic, evolving, open world where nations rise and fall, even as opportunities abound, due almost entirely to the efforts of the players running the world!

How To Participate

Domain & Settlement Selection is a great, big step toward the immersive world we are bringing to you, our community. For 4 weeks, starting on April 29, accounts that have a land title and have selected their primary server will be allowed to claim their lands, separated by title tier and in order of influence. Those who haven't selected a server by April 22 will be allowed to claim after the end of the 4th week (May 27). You will be given a timer, based off your title tier and influence, to inform you of when you will be able to claim. This timer is when you can issue a claim on a property, but is not the first time you can see the map.

Maps will be available to browse for all, not just title holders, in a web app on our website. Due to the image size, both in megabytes to download and visual scale, we strongly advise only browsing on a computer, not a phone or tablet.

Week 1: Kingdoms - April 29-May 5

All server-selected Kingdom title holders will be allowed to claim domains and a settlement, in influence order, for all claimed titles on their account (kingdoms, duchies, counties, settlement)

Week 2: Duchies - May 6-May 12

All server-selected Duchy title holders will be allowed to claim domains and a settlement, in influence order, for all claimed titles on their account (duchies, counties, settlement)

Week 3: Counties - May 13-May 19

All server-selected County title holders will be allowed to claim domains and a settlement, in influence order, for all claimed titles on their account (counties, settlement)

Week 4: Settlements - May 20-May 26

All server-selected Settlement title holders will be allowed to claim, in influence order, their settlement

Week 5+: Open - May 27-TBD

All remaining title holders of all tiers will be allowed to claim their domains or settlement on a first-come, first-served basis.

For additional details on what kind of information you'll be able to see on the map, the naming requirements, and other details, head over to the Domain & Settlement Selection Details post.

Take Me to the Details

What's Next

Once the main phase for Domain & Settlement Selection concludes on May 27, Elyria is so vast that there will definitely be properties still left unclaimed. As Caspian mentioned in the State of Elyria, there will be an opportunity for the untitled to snatch up unclaimed settlements or domains directly from the map! While the other benefits that came with the Nobility and Aristocracy Pledge Packages won't be included, such as Exposition Points or Design Experiences, the price will be discounted as a result. We expect this second phase of Domain & Settlement Selection will be every bit as exciting as the main phase promises to be! Look for details on phase two in the coming weeks.

Join the conversation about this exciting occasion by visiting our Forums or our official Discord server.

If you had a pledge you purchased back in kickstarter and it's not associated to your forum account, you need to contact SBS.

To ease the process, I would suggest first getting what details you can from your kickstarter account, then emailing SBS support ([email protected]). They will take you through some form of verification process. Hope that helps!

Short version, if you have a mayor, count, duke, or monarch title in your inventory (click here then click on inventory on the left) then you will have to select a domain or settlement during D&SS.

Long version, since you are Rank 3 here, but not yet rank 4 it means you have between 1000 and 1200 influence, and as such have at most spent >120 dollars which means at most you got a kickstarter Bloodline pack or below, which does not get you a title.

You shouldn't have to worry about selecting a settlement and can simply sit back and watch the show :D

Is there a way we can monitor the selections, see it in real time? Even if we can F5 refresh the map page and see who selected what.

Yes, when people select on the map it will be updated for everyone to see that the domain has been selected, and once the custom name gets approved it will appear on there as well.

That's a bummer, Iviy. But the good news is that there are still likely to be a lot of settlements available to choose from, if you're not committed to anywhere.

Same. A little more than frustrated that I'm out of the country for three weeks and lose my place for a pledge I put in 2 years ago, but guess I should have gotten my group together earlier and chosen a server

Gentry are not title holders. Title holders are Mayors, Counts, Dukes, And Kings. Gentry (and the title holders for that matter) still have to wait until expo to use EP to buy their privately owned land

Will Domain selection be in real time? If so is each selection locked in as a separate function? If Monarch 1 selects Kingdom 1 will that be immediately visible? If monarch 1 selects their county or counties for the capitol will that also be immediately visible? Is this is so, it would IMHO vastly accelerate the time choice time available to the Duchy title holders as they now know where the capitol and its surrounding lands will be. This method would also make the subsequent settlers able to consider their choices sooner, and relieve some anxieties.

A couple things.
- Yes, decisions will be made in real time. So as soon as something is gone it will be marked as gone for anyone that pulls up the maps.
- The choices are actually going to be anonymous, so while later when personas are added and after domain names get approved you will know who is where, prior to that it will be at the disclosure of those who picked.
- It won't affect the time slot of other people, but it will give them more advance warning of which domains are taken so they can work out their plan in the meantime. So it won't cause their pick to come sooner just because the person in front of them picked, it as you said though give them more time to consider their choices.

Folks, all of the write ups for DSS I have seen have stated a 4 week period, why is this a shock? I don't care how long they spread it out, someone is going to get the zero dark thirty time slot for their pick time. That is just how it falls. Secondly, at last count over half the mayors have yet to pick a server so that cuts a lot of people out that first mayor week unless they get on and pick a server. Third, mayors get 2 weeks to select. The first week is the ones that have picked a server already and the second is for everyone else (all titles) that haven't picked their server yet. And you do not have to pick at your assigned time! Yes you have more options if you do but you still have that two week period to select. Why all this outcry?

Gromschlog - 3 months ago

sure, my first idea how times would be was more like 1:1:2:3 instead of 1:1:1:1, but anyway... I dont really see the issue for mayors. There are FAR more settlements than mayors, so even the last mayors will still have lots of nice settlements to choose from. Most mayors are already affiliated with some groups and therefore know the rough area they'll settle in anyway. Its not like there were only five really good settlements left after kings/dukes/counts chose their settlements and you'll battle over them with the other four mayors that have the same amount of IP as you. If you invested heavily in IP, your pick will be in the beginning of the mayors week, while someone without further investments will be at the end. There are several days of time inbetween and you had weeks to look for nice settlements before. A high IP investment will still give those that did it some days of time with much less competitors.

And my estimate is: if someone has 10000 IP and you have 10010 and someone else has 100000, then there will be days between the third and the other two and seconds between the first two. Not minutes between everyone. In the end, all mayors that didn't buy any EP will be able to pick at the same time, together with anyone that didnt pick till then. But even after they are finished, there will be plenty of nice spots left.

Sure, there will be drama. But drama will always be there. "Damnit, I wanted to be mayor of the capital, but my king took it" Sure, I'd personally like to rule Moria, but I simply didn't invest enough and therefore will either just have to live inside or create my own :P

I’ve got to agree with Gunnlang here. There are what 6-8 monarchs, so of course, they need a week to pick, especially when most of the servers monarchs have already decided where they want to go. Dukes are about a dozen per Kingdom, they need more time then the monarchs but not a whole week. They could probably do the monarchs and then dukes in a single week. Give the counts a week, there are a lot more of them. Mayors and Barons should get a two week block as there are far far more of us. Not to mention that monarchs, dukes and counts can still pick during the whole four week period.

Gunnlang - 3 months ago

@Amelanchier it's got little to do with seeing the map. It's the point that everyone will be grouped together, picking wise. Unlike the top end, that even if they got an bad time. Well logically, their windows must be way bigger, less of them and all. Compare to lower ranks getting a bad window.

Just makes it seem like having high IP, won't really make much of a difference. But then I expected the whole event to last a few months. A few weeks per title. Not something that's smashed out in a month.

But whatever, if where I want to go, only has shitty spots left. Well enough of the world is open to go somewhere else.

Amelanchier - 3 months ago

Interesting to me that you are upset about the time we have. You'll be able to view the map as soon as everyone else (April 29ish) and you'll know as soon as the kingdoms are claimed. That, along with duchy and count claims should narrow down your options. The whole time you get more information you can narrow down your choices. Once it's your turn it should be easy to choose which village or town to govern.
Maybe you don't have relationships already formed on discord with a kingdom and county you like but if you took time now to do that then you'd be able to discuss with the other mayors or barons under your count what they're looking for and again narrow your options.
tl;dr - Find a fun group of people to play with and I think you'll find you have plenty of time to make your choice.

Gunnlang - 3 months ago

So I take it, SBS is never going to explain more on how long everyone window is going to be? And much like surname selection, everything going to be in the dark? I could gather this is all for the drama effect. Over giving people peace of mind that they have X amount of time.

Common estimates make it about 5-10 minutes for mayors, 20-30 minutes for counts.

No they haven't explained shit about it, and frankly I am still pissed that they only allowed 1 week for mayors.

Come on now, there's going to me somewhere around 15,000 settlements per server. Even if you're only actually competing for the top 25% most viable settlements, there's only a 0.03% chance that the settlement you settlement will be taken by each successive mayor to pick before you. So, even if you're a full 24 hours late to your pick there's still less than a 6% chance that you're going to lose your pick.

While I completely agree that it shouldn't take that long for the kings to choose, or really the dukes, they do have more that they have to choose.

And don't worry. If Ari runs out of places for you, you are welcome to come to my county. (just joking as I wouldn't poach from another count in my duchy.)

Agree there. This post really didn't explain much of anything. Logically it should allow longer for counts/mayors, just cause there is way more than the other titles. Makes people picking the same spots more likely to happen, with short windows/not ideal times. This whole event is already going to be a messy drama. Doesn't need to be added too.

Lucky the dukes/kings have easily enough time each. But you gotta look after the top guys after all.

The details post recommends reviewing the map early and jotting down your "top few picks", which suggests it must be prior to the day of selection for those at the King level on April 29, so at the latest it would have to be open for viewing April 28 I would guess, or else the Kings/Qeeens will all be scrambling in the first minutes or hours of April 29 to look it over for the first time.

I have question which is not really clear to me. I am a magistrate but i would like to get a county. If i choose my settlement in a county that had not been picked by any counts yet. Can i buy this county after the 27th of may. So i become count and have my settlement in that county? Or do i have to wait with selecting a settlement until after the 27th of may. Then buy a county and then finally choose to have my settlement in there?

Or is it not possible at all to ''upgrade'' for a magistrate to count?

If you place your settlement in an unclaimed county, you will have a chance to later purchase it (provided no one else tries to select the county you are located in). If someone selects the county, it won't be open for purchase.

Yes, there will be opportunities later to buy titles after the initial Domain & Settlement Selection has passed. At the end of this update, it sheds some light on the subject:

We expect this second phase of Domain & Settlement Selection will be every bit as exciting as the main phase promises to be! Look for details on phase two in the coming weeks.

Not all the information is hashed out yet, but one of the requirements for purchasing these titles after Domain Selection is having a Bloodline (or above) pledge package, and not owning an existing title. Pricing details is unknown, and it will just be the title itself with no other game rewards attached to it (i.e sparks of life, pets, mounts, etc).

beta is not part of the game, it gets wiped. If you are interested in spending your EP to buy land in a particular domain, you will do that in Exposition. That doesn't mean you can't be a part of a particular domain's community before then though. If you do know which one you want to be a part of, go to their forum and/or discord to speak with them.

Bloodline won't be doing anything during domain and settlement selection. It is purely for Mayor + only until after everyone with a title has chosen.

Just aristocracy+. Technically, gentry aren't "sanctioned landowners" yet, even if they have the EP/items to have land. They won't have their own land until expo, and that land will technically be "owned" by someone else who will be selling it to you.

Yes... if they have ep items they will get to stake claim on a plot or plots without cash but it will essentially be purchasing land just like anyone else would do, in-game during exposition.

For a bit more clarity, from an RP/Lore stance, your family has held your Exposition parcels for years or perhaps generations.

From a technical stance, you won't be able to directly claim your parcels until Exposition. You won't "buy" them in the sense of exchanging in-world currency or goods, but you will have to physically go to plot in-game and claim it. Last we heard, Exposition access is granted in rank and influence order similarly to D/SS, so your first opportunity to claim land parcels will come after those higher in rank and influence have had their turn.

Where's title transfers/claiming? Kind of important to get that back up before DSS starts, and we have had zero word on it.
