I think there‘s a possibility for automated translation, as the chat client has to translate your respective language to an in-game language, then check if listeners can actually understand that language, before outputting any text to another player. So it could go something like this, when both PC are capable of understanding Kypiq:
Russian -> Kypiq -> Spanish and vice/versa, while everyone else not versed in it, would just read Kypiq, no matter their native RL tongue.
At least I believe how it will be with English and they’ll be using a translation’esque algorithm to come up with believeable translations, rather than made up gibberish and in that case, you could embed google translate and put it inbetween the two. It should deliver something understandable at the very least, tho it probably wouldn’t suffice for discussing delicate matters and be the cause of severe misunderstandings, if not used with caution.
But from my experience with chats with automatically translated messages, more and more mobile games seem to utilize them, you can spot easily when you’re talking over a google relay or not and then adjust message length and difficulty accordingly.
Generally what is happening pretty much everywhere is that on the higher levels people will communicate in English and then those who can't speak English or are not confident in it are grouping together in counties or Duchies that are more language/nationality focused. So you might find German speaking or French speaking Counties and Duchies or Counties and Duchies that are more a mixture of nationalities who all are great English speakers.
My Duchy of Anor is a huge melting pot of nationalities but we all speak primarily English as 99% of us are highly fluent or at a level where communication is easy. There are other Duchies within the Kingdom of Demalion though more focused such as a German focused Duchy such as Kaga, or at least that's where most Germans end up gravitating towards.
So in the grand scheme I don't think communication will be a problem at all. I mean potentially in-game if you're travelling the world adventuring and happen to travel through one of these Duchies or Counties that is limited in it's English speaking then surely that just adds to the experience and you just move on through. Stick to the areas you can communicate in best.
on that particular subject what others have said seems logical except i'd not consider people will organize by language on a political level by default.
Even if they are able to speak English but for sure if they are not people will tend to organize with others speaking the same language, sharing the same time zone and culture. that can be at a duchy level or a county level or a settlement or an organization..... some of them will exist or are already existing, but most of them are not yet existing and will depend a lot on where people spawn after launch.
The community so far is using discord and the forum a lot more than what the future players will do. Right now to be part of a community you have to socialize, get to discord or the forum, tomorrow, you'll just spawn in the world and BAM, by default you'll be part of a settlement, a county, a duchy and a kingdom all without having read anything or talked to anyone. And that's only when you'll start searching for a community to join, and it will be foolish to expect people to move far from that spawning point just to join a community. If there is none in the not too distant area people will start a new community.
If they have or want to interact outside of that community they will have to rely on a common shared language, most often it will be English but i have seen on several occasions, such groups talk using a third language, because a member of each group was able/willing to use it.
If they are unable to find that communication proxy with the world around them, they will stay together and interact to a minimum, depending on the situation that will bring problems or not.
basically we will do in CoE the same as we do in all other massively multi player games without localized servers, we will manage as best we can.
native language in small local groups and english on large scale and when engaging internationally. what is the problem?
I'd ask the various EU monarchs what countries they're based in, what languages they speak, and go from there. Not super up to date on the EU server population, but I believe several recruitment threads state player languages.

Easy question the only European is the King of Arkadia. I am not sure where the new King of Trygrr is from but I think not EU.
^_^ more servers for europe would be nice, but I´m fine to communicate in english. I would like an german community to, but its not neccesary.

They should probably show duchy irl language used during character selection. It would be unfortunate for an English pleb to plonk himself in the middle of a Spanish triple duchy unknowingly. A newb post launch with no prior knowledge of these forums or the discord would get frustrated real quick.
