There is no official launch date of the game just yet, just a development schedule from July 2017 [State of Elyria].

To that end, below is an approximate schedule - not of when we expect the work to be complete - but when we expect to be under active development toward a particular deliverable or milestone. Providing a timeline in this format allows us to have an open, transparent, candid conversation about what and when we're working on something, while still giving us the freedom to make changes sprint-to-sprint and change the dates of our internal milestones to suit our development needs.

For easy reading Q3, and Q4 means "Quarter 3 and Quarter 4." T1, T2, and T3 means "trimester 1, 2, or 3," and implies a 4-month window. S1 and S2 means "semester 1 or 2" and implies a six-month window of time.

V3 of the Website (Q3 2017)
ElyriaMUD (Q4 2017)
Alpha 1 (T1 2018)
Server Selection (T1 2018)
Settlement / Domain Selection (T2 2018)
KoE (T2 2018)
Design Experiences (T3 2018)
Alpha 2 (T3 2018)
Beta 1 (S1 2019)
Prologue & CoE Adventure Toolkit (S1 2019)
Exposition (S1 2019)
Beta 2 (S1/S2 2019)
Stress Test (Any paid account)(S2 2019)
Launch (S2 2019)

No one is playing at the moment, the closest thing we'll get our hands to the game is VoxElyria around April or so to Alpha 1 backers.

No one is currently playing.....

Internal testers are working with the preliminary client now, and the alpha 1 backers/testers are due to get an updated version of VoxElyria (formerly ElyriaMUD) around the beginning of April-ish.

The timeline Xeyska reposted above from last year shows the game as releasing second half of 2019, with hopes that it may come earlier in the half than later, depending on financing and such. The community worst case assumption is early 2020 for full release. There are many steps in between, with lots of room for people to join in along the way as Alpha 2, the Betas, Kingdoms of Elyria and of course the all important Exposition get underway.

That being said about the actual client, many people are actively playing the "Dance of the Dynasties", which is the role playing part of the gentry/aristocracy/royalty. This is very active, fun, and is helping the devs with ideas for fine tuning the game while there is still time to incorporate it into the first pass of the code. Jump into the CoE Discord, as well as some of the Kingdom or Duchy Discords, and join the fun!

"read a timeline saying launch 2020 how much fun and how many people are currently playing?" it could be relased anywhere in the second half of 2019, or into 2020, no one knows. no one outside developers or testers are currently playing any of the versions from what i know

"V3 of the Website (Q3 2017) ElyriaMUD (Q4 2017) Alpha 1 (T1 2018) Server Selection (T1 2018) Settlement / Domain Selection (T2 2018) KoE (T2 2018) Design Experiences (T3 2018) Alpha 2 (T3 2018) Beta 1 (S1 2019) Prologue & CoE Adventure Toolkit (S1 2019) Exposition (S1 2019) Beta 2 (S1/S2 2019) Stress Test (Any paid account)(S2 2019) Launch (S2 2019) "

i see this quoted often but it's not so accurate for dates, the scheduling and ordering is good though

since voxelyria is currently "behind" between 3-6 months as measured from the latest/earliest date of Q4 2017 listed above, and is still not released, we shouldn't expect future dates to be accurate. but "To that end, below is an approximate schedule - not of when we expect the work to be complete - but when we expect to be under active development toward a particular deliverable or milestone." it specifically says these aren't the dates to expect for releases. i think we can safely delay all those dates by 2-3 months to arrive at something more realistic

The dates posted above are the estimated start dates for the development process of said items. They are not release dates. So, I would not expect the item to be released when it is expected to start development. Some items will also take longer to develop than others.

Honestly, I just add a year every time an update happens on the scheduling :D

That way I will be surprised and happy when it does come out.
