My experience was similar; however, I found that this was a normal function of the merge as when I later checked my secondary account, it had been locked and my Master account had been combined
Did you try to log in to your secondary account to see if it has been locked?
if it is not then I am afraid I don't know the answer

Had the same problem but the solution for me was logging off from my main account and logging back in before restarting the merging process.
