This actually happens to me as well. I have made sure that I am using https and not http.
When I log in on the front page, it appears to have not gone through. But when I manually type in the forum address, the login succeeds.
have the same issue
have to login in other browser instead of chrome
login page: https://chroniclesofelyria.com/#
I also have been having a problem with chrome for a few months. If I interact with anything on the Login page I am unable to login as the login button is unresponsive.
It is also unresponsive to clicks in general regardless of whether I interact with anything.
However since Chrome auto fills my credentials I am able to simply hit enter and login that way.
This being the case I cannot use the "remember me" option because that requires a mouse interaction and as I said at first, interactions other than the Enter key result in the inability to login.
This happens to me sometimes. Try retyping out your password. If my password autofills, it tends not to send through, but if I type it out manually, it processes.
Might be a different issue, but it's a solution I've found works.
The autofill password isn't what I'm having a problem with.
When on the main site, if I hit login, the page processes and closes the popup as if it logged in, and it refreshes as if logging in, but it doesn't log in on the main page. Because of this, the "forums" button does not show up on the front page.
However, when manually navigating to the forums by typing it into the address bar, the forums show that I am logged in.
Try not checking the keep me signed in checkbox. I have the same problem on tablet and pc when using chrome but that usually does the trick for me.
However like to point out that chrome uped it's security policies some time ago and the website is using mixed hhtp and hhtps content, as such chrome doesn't considers the website secure (and rightfully so as it isn't) so this could also cause issue's.

test
Tried the solution offered by blankwindow. It seems to work, sometimes. After 4 or 5 tries the login goes through the be buggy again the next time. Will try the solutions offered by others to see If one of those Will work.
